Oily skin can be a real nuisance and if not managed properly can lead to other problems such as blocked, enlarged pores and acne. Following these six simple tips can take your oily skin from bothersome to beautiful in no time.

Oily Skin Tips

1
Look For “Oil-Free” Products

There are masses of products on the market designed for people with oily skin, look for labels that state “oil-free” and “non-comedogenic”. Products described as “mattifying” are also good for managing oil and reducing shine.

2
Blotting Paper Is Your Best Friend

As the day goes on our skin produces oil and those with especially oily skin can end up with shiny, greasy looking skin. Use blotting papers (that can be bought or made at home) to soak up excess oil. An optional extra step is to lightly dab on some powder afterwards.

3
Pay Attention To Ingredients

Certain ingredients are better than others when it comes to oily skin; alcohol is one to avoid as it can trigger an overproduction of oil. Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid and Glycolic Acid are all ingredients commonly found in oily/acne prone skin products, which help to reduce oiliness and unclog pores.

4
Exfoliate

One big problem with oily skin is that it tends to lead to a build up of dead skin cells which can clog pores and cause spots. Exfoliating regularly, (once or twice a week) with a gentle scrub or a mild chemical exfoliator, is therefore key to your skincare routine.

5
Facemasks

Facemasks can be a brilliant way to gently and naturally manage oily skin. Clay masks can soak up oil and draw out impurities in the skin. Masks containing Kaolin have the added anti-microbial benefits and are especially good for oily skin with acne.

6
Don’t Strip Your Skin Of Moisture

When you suffer from oily skin it can be tempting to go overboard and try to dry it out altogether, but this will only end up triggering your skin into overcompensating by producing yet more oil. Avoid overly drying products such as those containing high amounts of alcohol, cleanse a maximum of twice a day and don’t forget to moisturize.
